Any fan initially thought that Bolivar Trask would become one of the main villains in X-Men '97, however, episode 7 just proved them wrong. But the question is, how did Bolivar Trask become a Sentinel in the animated series?

Bolivar Trask Transforms Into a Human Sentinel; Experiment Gone Wrong

X-Men '97 episode 7 titled Bright Eyes finally confirmed who was responsible for sending out the giant Sentinels that committed mass murder on the mutants residing in Genosha.

Out of guilt and shame, Bolivar Trask himself contacted the X-Men to face him, so that he could properly talk to them about what had happened.

As it turned out, Mister Sinister supposedly took advantage of Trask's Sentinel inventions. Apparently, Trask wasn't aware that they planned on a mutant massacre.

And so, as the X-Men cornered him in Madripoor, Trask was already hanging from the edge of the building, claiming, "I won't let him make me any more of a monster than he already has."

Without hesitance, Rogue took matters into her own hands. As she was still mourning Gambit and Magneto's deaths, she let go of Trask himself, seemingly killing him.

That is until Trask suddenly rose from his death and revealed himself to be a human Sentinel. How did this happen? Did he do it to himself?

X-Men '97 Ep 7 Establishes the Supreme Villain of the Series All Along

The minute Trask rose from the grounds, his body recited, "Prime Sentinel protocol activated: Terminate mutants", the same line that was programmed in the gigantic Sentinels on Genosha.

Considering that Trask is an anti-mutant villain, turning himself into an overpowered being didn't sound like him at all.

As the episode unveiled, it had been Mister Sinister's new boss, Bastion, who purposely used Trask's body to experiment with the concept of human Sentinels.

Bastion is a combination of two entities: Master Mold and the futuristic Sentinel named Nimrod, which led him to the life of villainry. In this sense, he plans on destroying every mutant that gets in his way.

Seeing as Bastion is looking forward to pushing his other projects on lab tests, the episode also confirmed that Magneto is alive, meaning that the true archvillain of the series could take advantage of Magneto in the process.
