James Gunn Wants GOTG’s Dave Bautista for Suicide Squad 2

When James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Dave Bautista came out to be one of his most vocal supporters. Now with Guardians 3 on the backburner and Gunn set to direct Suicide Squad 2, news has it that he wants to bring Bautista onboard to the DCEU.

According to Collider, Gunn wants Bautista to play Peacemaker for SS2. Peacemaker is one of the new characters in Gunn's roster which will include obscure characters like Ratcatcher, King Shark, and Polka-Dot Man.

The role of Peacemaker is basically much like Drax in a sense that he's a walking conundrum. In Guardians, Drax is made to be this tough brute who becomes a source of humor since he takes everything literally. Peacemaker is known to be so obsessed with Peace that he will literally kill for it. I have no qualms at all on why Gunn would want Bautista for the role.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was set to start production this year but since it's been delayed, Bautista now sees a huge open gap in his schedule. Marvel Studios is going to be taking their time with that movie, so I don't see why Bautista can't go off to work on Suicide Squad 2 with Gunn.

While I'm happy that Gunn is working on something new with DC, I'm kind of irked that he's totally disregarding everything that was presented in the first Suicide Squad. Besides choosing to recast Deadshot, I was kind of hoping that he salvaged elements from the film that worked. I thought Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang was definitely worth seeing again, and as of now, we have no mention of Viola Davis coming back as Amanda Waller.

Hopefully, everything works out fine.

Catch The Suicide Squad in theaters Aug. 6, 2021.
