Starting with Edwin, who was initially introduced in The Sandman.
Edwin attended St. Hilarion’s boarding school for boys in 1916. There, a group of bullies callously gave up his soul to the depths of hell.
Subsequently seized by a demon, he endured over 70 years of relentless torment before eventually breaking free and crossing paths with Charles.
Edwin is a scholarly individual who has curated a vast collection of arcane texts.
Elsewhere, Charles met his death in 1990, falling victim to attacks by bullies at St. Hilarion’s.
Instead of departing with Death to the afterlife, Charles bonded with the ghost of Edwin, opting to be by his side.
He is known to tackle challenges directly, wielding a mystical cricket bat stored within his bag of tricks.

Do Edwin and Charles Get Together in Dead Boy Detectives?
Edwin and Charles share a great bond but their relationship is “very, very complex,” which Revri has confirmed in an interview with Radio Times.
Revri also said that at the beginning of the series, Edwin and Charles are “like a married couple.”
“You get to really see the foundations that they've built over that 30-year period. But once these things start coming to light, you kind of get to see that love between them,” Revri added.
In Episode 7 of the series, Edwin opens up to Charles, revealing his feelings and confessing his love for him.
Beth Schwartz, who is one of the co-showrunners of Dead Boy Detectives, spoke with Netflix about what’s next for Edwin and Charles after the finale.
“Once we’re in the finale, there’s obviously a little hint that things will take a second to be exactly where they were, but they’re definitely on their way back to how their relationship was before. But even better –– because now Edwin can be who he really is, and has admitted something that he had been holding onto,” Schwartz said.
For now, Charles and Edwin are still a strong team in Dead Boy Detectives, a team that is expanding with the inclusion of the Night Nurse in the agency.
In the meantime, Edwin and Charles’ friendship and bond will continue to be stronger than ever.
