Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy opened up about the various cameo appearances that will happen in the movie and explained how they came to be.

For the past several months, it's been heavily rumored that the upcoming MCU film will feature cameo appearances from various actors in the Fox Marvel movies.

So far, Marvel Studios remains mum on the details surrounding the film's surprise cameos aside from a couple of confirmed names including Jennifer Garner (Elektra) and Aaron Stanford (Pyro).

Shawn Levy Explains the Deadpool and Wolverine Cameo Wishlist

In an interview, Levy explained how they came up with the cameo appearances that will take place in Deadpool and Wolverine.

He noted that there was no wishlist on who they wanted to appear for a cameo in the film and the decisions were all story-based.

"I'll say we didn't start off with a wishlist. From the day we started devising this Deadpool and Wolverine story, we let the story dictate the characters, not the other way around," he said.

"Aaron and his return as Pyro was an outgrowth of that, and that applies to pretty much all the characters you'll see in the movie."

Despite the massive cameos and ensemble that the film has, Levy assured that it will still focus on the titular heroes.

"As a two-hander, oil-and-water story, this movie draws inspiration from the great films in that genre," he explained.

While having many cameo appearances in the film could be seen as fan service, it looks like they still have a narrative purpose somewhat and they won't appear for the sake of getting applause from the moviegoers.

Hopefully, it will indeed be the case when we see the film this July once we see it in its entirety and find out which cameos they have in store.

Deadpool and Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters this July 26.
