James Gunn Confirms His Suicide Squad Roster is Complete

James Gunn may have to wait a while before he gets back to work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as he's currently working on the DCEU's Suicide Squad sequel. We already know he's introducing some new characters with his iteration, and he's just confirmed that he's found his full team already.

This is his interaction with a fan on IG (via Reddit):

For now, we know that he's bringing back original Squad members Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flagg, and Amanda Waller. Idris Elba is now in an unconfirmed role (possibly Bronze Tiger), with David Dastlmalchian playing the Polka-Dot Man and Daniela Melchior playing the Ratcatcher.

John Cena has also been approached for a role, but it's unclear whether he's going to play King Shark or Peacemaker. With Shark probably going to be a completely CG role, I'm guessing the movie will be using Cena's imposing physique for Peacemaker.

We don't even know if this film's King Shark will talk, but hopefully they credit whoever is doing the CG body double.

For now, nobody knows what to expect from Gunn's The Suicide Squad. We know he's going to be drawing inspiration from Jon Ostrander's run in the comics, but we still have no hint at the story. Hopefully this time he comes up with something more intricate than the first Suicide Squad because it was never really explained why the movie needed someone like Harley Quinn to join the ranks of a team that can supposedly take out an apocalyptic magic threat.

Catch Gunn's The Suicide Squad when it hits theaters Aug. 5, 2021.
