Zack Snyder Reveals the Truth Behind Aquaman’s Trident in Batman v Superman

It turns out that the trident that Aquaman (Jason Momoa) used in Batman v Superman wasn't his.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made its big premiere four years ago, and to celebrate the film's four year anniversary director Zack Snyder decided to go live on Vero over the weekend to give his fans and followers a director's commentary about the movie.

Discussing the different ideas that helped propel the different scenes in the film, Snyder got to talking about Aquaman's debut in the movie. During the commentary (via ComicBook.com), the filmmaker revealed that Aquaman wasn't carrying around his own trident in the film. The weapon actually belonged to his mother.

'The concept here was that he had his, to me it was that he had probably trained with his mother's trident a couple of times with Vulko, but he wasn't keeping it himself," Snyder told fans during the Veero session, "So Vulko kept the trident with him and, as needed, if they were training or [whatever], he would get it from him, but he'd always give it back. But he never took it up as like a real mantle."

It's interesting to see that Aquaman wasn't using his own trident in the movie.

We can only wonder what kind of implications it has for James Wan's Aquaman movie. Would the director's take on Arthur Curry's standalone movie have changed had Warner Brothers decided to keep Zack Snyder's plans for the DC Expanded universe?

Maybe.
