Wit Studio currently has only one confirmed upcoming anime. But it seems that’s about to change soon as Wit Studio teased a potential Great Pretender Season 2 announcement next week.
Recently, a teaser for Great Pretender was shared. Instead of featuring new footage, it was essentially a teaser for an announcement during the studio’s panel at Anime NYC 2023.
It’s not clear yet what this announcement will be, but chances are that it will be a second season reveal. After all, it’s high time for one given that it has been three years since the first season was released.
Great Pretender: Wit Studio's Lesser-Known Original Work
Wit Studio is a popular animation studio that gained renown a decade ago thanks to Attack on Titan. The series’ Final Season may have been animated by MAPPA, but Wit oversaw the show’s first three seasons.
Since then, Wit has gone on to animate more popular shows such as Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, Ranking of Kings, and Spy x Family (in collaboration with CloverWorks).
The studio also worked on the first seasons of The Ancient Magus’ Bride and Vinland Saga, though both shows got the Attack on Titan treatment as they were shifted to another studio for their next seasons.
Great Pretender is another anime by Wit that isn’t as talked about as its other projects. This series was released on Netflix back in the Summer 22 season.
Instead of being an adaptation, Great Pretender is an original work by the studio. Even though it may not be as well-known as Wit’s other works, the series has been praised by viewers for its unique style and animation.

Wit Studio Teases Potential Great Pretender Season 2 Reveal at Anime NYC
The studio has been quiet about the anime’s future since the first season ended. This made it seem like Great Pretender was just a one-off project. Thankfully, for fans, that won’t be the case.
Wit recently shared a new teaser for an upcoming announcement related to the series. The teaser was shared on the anime’s official X (formerly Twitter) account and the TOHO animation YouTube channel.
What exactly the announcement will be hasn’t been revealed yet, but many fans believe that this is a second season announcement given how it’s being promoted.
We’ll have to wait and see what it will be. Thankfully, the wait won’t be too long as the Wit Studio panel at Anime NYC 2023 is happening on November 18 at 12:45 PM Pacific / 3:45 PM Eastern.
