Anime NYC 2023 will host lots of big anime premieres and showcases, but that’s not all that will happen at the event. Recently, it was announced that the US Marines will host a Battle Dome booth at Anime NYC.
The Marines’ involvement in the event was highlighted recently on Anime NYC's X (formerly Twitter) account. There, some details about what to expect were revealed.
This development comes as a surprise for many. After all, the US Armed Forces isn’t exactly an organization that comes to mind when talking about anime.
Anime NYC Announces US Marines Booth at 2023 Event
This year’s Anime NYC promises to be a big one. It’ll be a must-attend for fans who want to get early previews of upcoming shows like Delicious in Dungeon as the event will host premieres of new titles.
Other shows that will get world premieres include studio Bones’ Metallic Rouge, BARTENDER: Glass of God, and Classroom of the Elite Season 3, among others.
Aside from premieres, the event will also feature a wide array of booths for both upcoming shows as well as merch.
One of the booths that many didn’t expect is the US Marines’ Battle Dome. It’s not clear what it will be, but it’s likely going to be a battle-themed experience. What is clear is that this is a recruitment drive.
The US Armed Forces have long explored promotion and recruitment strategies through various media.
Aside from games like Call of Duty, which the US Army supports, the Air Force is also a partner in films like Top Gun.

Anime Fans Have Mixed Reactions to Anime NYC’s Marines Booth
Military games and movies make sense as many of these portray the Armed Forces positively or excitedly. That’s not the case with anime though, as there are next to no shows featuring the US military.
Because of this, many fans made fun of the partnership. Some One Piece fans replied with references to the World Government Marines.
Meanwhile, others poked fun at how the Marines won’t find good recruits in an anime convention.
Of course, some fans are uncomfortable with the Armed Forces’ involvement in the event on moral grounds.
Given that there are already responses to the announcement, more reactions to the Marines’ Battle Dome will likely come out during the event, be they serious or hilarious.
Anime NYC 2023 is happening at the Javits Convention Center in New York City from November 17-19, 2023.
