Twilight Critics Slam Robert Pattinson's Batman Casting, Fans Come To His Defense

Robert Pattinson's Twilight past is once again the talk of the town after news broke that the actor will take over for Ben Affleck as Batman.

Twitter was extra busy following the news, divided by the casting. Some were happy and very optimistic while some just wouldn't have it. The early apparently draws from his time as the "sparkly" vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, which he himself isn't much of a fan of.

Fans were quick to tell detractors not jump to conclusion. They pointed that he's done a lot of amazing films since then with a list of their recommendations for Pattinson's best performances yet at the ready to convince them.

After the Twilight franchise, Pattinson's resume evolved with films like The Rover, Good Time, and The Lost City of Z. Indeed, Pattinson has shown his range as an actor with the many films he has done. He isn't new to the fantasy, science fiction, and suspense genre either, which should help his performance as Batman.

Some Twitter users also pointed out that Affleck's initial casting as Batman wasn't received well, yet he ended up dong a pretty good job as the comic book icon. So fans hope that people reserve their criticism after they are able to watch Pattinson him don the cowl.

Twilight was trending when news first broke about Pattinson's potential Batman gig. We have to imagine that Warner Bros. expected this to happen, but the fact that they are entrusting him to play one of the most iconic comic book superheroes of all time is saying something. After all, they can't afford to mess this one up after Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

At the moment, nothing has been made official yet. Warner Bros. was apparently also considering Tolkien and X-Men First Class star Nicholas Hoult before they ultimately chose Pattinson.

If Pattinson is indeed going to be the new Batman, he will be the youngest actor to ever play the role. This will also mark his return to a tentpole franchise.
