Suicide Squad's David Ayer Fully Supports James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

After his work on Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it's no wonder that fans are excited to see James Gunn work his magic on The Suicide Squad. There was some minor controversy when fans tried to start a rivalry between Gunn and original Suicide Squad director David Ayer after the former was supposedly caught liking tweets that bashed Ayer's 2016 film.

Well, when Ayer was asked about what kind of movie The Suicide Squad would be, the Bright director made it clear that he harbors no ill will towards Gunn. In a tweet replying to a fan, Ayer claimed that The Suicide Squad was a reinvention of his movie and that he supports Gunn's upcoming vision. Hopefully, this puts a damper on the fires fans are starting since they just want to see people duke it out on Twitter.

This could all be something that Ayer was told to say but we'll try and be positive about this since the world has enough hate. As someone who didn't particularly enjoy Suicide Squad, Gunn's track record has me pretty excited for his version of the movie, even if it isn't an all-out sequel, despite retaining some characters.

Seriously, would it have killed you guys to just make this a sequel? Suicide Squad made a ton of money so there's no shame in capitalizing on that, even if it had a different director this time.

Fans will be able to witness James Gunn's The Suicide Squad on August 6, 2021.
