FLCL is a classic anime from the 90s that saw a revival in recent years thanks to Adult Swim’s new anime projects. Now though, a senior VP at Adult Swim revealed that there will be no new FLCL anime from them.
Jason DeMarco, the senior vice president of anime and action at Warner Bros. Discovery revealed via X (formerly Twitter) that Adult Swim will no longer make any new FLCL anime.
This means Shoegaze will be the last Adult Swim project in the series. This is despite the new series entries being successful.
Adult Swim Considers FLCL Grunge and Shoegaze as Successful Shows
The original FLCL anime was made by legendary studios Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and Production I.G (Psycho-Pass) back in the early 2000s.
FLCL may not have become a huge hit, but it did go on to become a cult classic that’s beloved by many classic anime fans.
Thanks to its enduring popularity, Production I.G teamed up with Adult Swim to create sequels.
The sequel shows began with the release of FLCL Progressive in 2018. This was soon followed by FLCL Alternative which also aired in the same year.
This year, Production I.G and Adult Swim teamed up once again for two new shows. The first is FLCL: Grunge which aired in September. Now, the FLCL: Shoegaze anime is also airing on Adult Swim.
Shoegaze’s run isn’t over yet, but senior VP Jason DeMarco revealed on X that Adult Swim considers the new shows to be successes ratings-wise.

No New FLCL Anime in the Works From Adult Swim, Says VP
Despite the two shows being successful, DeMarco revealed in the same post that they won’t be making any more FLCL anime. This should mean that Shoegaze will be the last we’ll see of the franchise for some time.
Regarding the two shows’ success, DeMarco thanked fans for their support. He did clarify that this doesn’t mean the end of the franchise as he said that this only pertains to Adult Swim’s side.
When asked by a fan about why there won’t be any new FLCL projects from Adult Swim, DeMarco said that they have other projects they want to do.
He also said that there’s only a limited amount of money for them, implying that Adult Swim would rather prioritize other projects.
On the bright side, the fact that the new FLCL shows got good ratings should mean that new FLCL projects may be made sometime in the future by Production I.G.
