Nicholas Hoult Is Apparently Still Very Much In The Running For Batman Role After All

Even though Robert Pattinson is the supposed frontrunner to succeed Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader in The Batman, Nicholas Hoult reportedly remains as competition.

According to Umberto Gonzalez of Heroic Hollywood, both Pattinson and Hoult will be screen testing this week. He added that they might be wearing the Batsuit for this seeing that the wardrobe department will need full wardrobe test as well.

Gonzalez also claims that The Batman will start production early next year as opposed to fall this year as reported earlier. Apparently, Warner Bros. is taking all the time they need to get the casting and the script right before moving forward.

It was recently reported that Warner Bros. will put Pattinson through extensive costume tests and screen tests as well as readings and meetings to make sure that he fits the role.

While it looks like Pattinson already has the Batman role in the bag with Variety saying that he is close to signing a deal a few weeks back, it would seem as though Hoult is still very much a serious contender for the gig.

For now, nothing has been confirmed yet. There is no news about the rest of The Batman cast either despite the rumors.

It has been reported that the film will be chock full of notable Batman villains including Penguin, Bane, Scarecrow, and even Catwoman. Josh Gad, Theo Rossi, Roby Kebbell, and Vanessa Hudgens are reportedly attached to these respective roles. Keri Russell and Jason Clarke are allegedly set to play Martha and Thomas Wayne, respectively.

The cast from the shortlived Ben Affleck era including Jeremy Irons and J.K. Simmons are apparently going to be recast as well with Richard E. Grant apparently being eyed as the replacement for the former.

The Batman is also reportedly going to be focused on Bruce Wayne's detective skills, a change of pace from the Batfleck version, which leaned heavily on his combat skills.

The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021.
