New Teaser for DC’s Pennyworth Introduces Us to Batman’s Would-Be Butler

We live in a Hollywood climate where just about any comic character can get a series, but who would think that we would be getting one focused on Alfred Pennyworth a.k.a. Batman's butler? DC has just dropped a new teaser for Pennyworth, and it previews the origin of everyone's favorite comic book manservant.

This is the official description for the show:

From Warner Horizon Scripted Television, DC origin story Pennyworth is a ten-episode, one-hour drama series based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. It follows Bruce Wayne's legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), Bruce's billionaire father, in 1960's London.

The series will be executive produced by Bruno Heller who has also worked on the show Gotham. The rest of the cast also includes Paloma Faith, Hainsley Lloyd Bennet, Ryan Fletcher, Jason Felmyng, and Polly Walker.

Admittedly, the series looks more impressive than I thought it would, but I think it's still too early to say. Sure there are some kooky-looking villains in the mix, but I don't expect them to really have any connection to Batman. If there was to be anyone familiar other than Thomas Wayne or Alfred, I would expect some more ageless villains in the comics like Ra's al Ghul or maybe Solomon Grundy.

I guess for now, all we can really do is wait and see. Pennyworth is set to come out on EPIX on July 28.
