Even though there’s no new season yet, the Kakegurui manga is still going strong. Sadly, fans will have to wait for the story to continue as the Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler manga is going on a hiatus for a couple of months.

The manga’s upcoming break was revealed in the latest issue of Gangan Joker magazine. There, it was confirmed that the manga will not get new chapters as its creators are taking a well-deserved break.

As 2024 marks the series’ 10th anniversary, chances are that fans can expect something big for this milestone when the manga returns. After all, that’s sort of what the series promises.

Kakegurui is a psychological thriller manga by Homura Kawamoto and Toru Naomura that began serialization in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker in March 2014.

The manga proved to be fairly popular early in its run, but there’s no doubt that its popularity got a major boost following the anime series adaptation by MAPPA (of Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man fame) which aired in 2017.

This anime adaptation was among the most notable acquisitions by Netflix, helping make it popular even among those who aren’t seasonal anime watchers.

Despite the anime not getting a proper third season yet, fans were at least treated to new chapters every month. Sadly, the manga will go on a months-long hiatus.

Regarding the break, it was mentioned that the two creators are taking time to “prepare and recharge” for the manga’s next development. This might mean we’ll see the start of another arc.

Given that the break is said to be for a few months, chances are that we’ll see the manga return in mid-2024.

There’s also a chance that the manga makes an early return in March. After all, the manga’s 10th anniversary is on March 22.

As for what to expect, chances are that the series will have some exciting news, be it a new arc, or maybe even a new anime series. A new anime is something that fans no doubt wish to see.

Even though there’s no word yet on a proper third season, there’s still definitely interest in a Kakegurui anime.

This is because MAPPA produced the 6-episode Kakegurui Twin anime, which is based on the prequel manga of the same name that follows the story of Mary Saotome.
