As for its story, the series follows Chihiro, a swordsman with a cursed past who lives only for revenge. From this short description, the series is set up to have a darker shonen tale, albeit one with a familiar premise.
It may not seem all that unique based on its premise, but it has quickly gained a lot of attention, especially internationally. In fact, mentions of Kagurabachi are all over manga communities on X and Reddit.
It’s hard to tell exactly why the series has gotten a ton of attention among English-speaking manga fans. Some believe that the Western fanbase typically enjoys darker stories, so this new series might fit the bill.
Meanwhile, others think the manga’s intriguing art style is another reason as it has already drawn comparisons to titles like Bleach and Demon Slayer.
What’s undeniable though is that Kagurabachi has become a big meme.
