Joaquin Phoenix Refused To Get Pointers From Previous Jokers

We all know that the Joker is one character who has been played by so many amazing actors that it's difficult to pin down which one gave the best performance. However, Joaquin Phoenix has just revealed that he didn't even bother to check on those other versions of the Clown Prince of Crime before he took on the role in Todd Phillips' upcoming film.

Phoenix and Phillips were recently at the Venice International Film Festival where the Warner Bros. movie has just premiered. During the press conference, the Gladiator star revealed how he prepared to become the Joker.

"For me what the attraction to make this film, this character, was that we were going to approach it in our own way, so for me, I didn't refer to any past iterations of the character," Phoenix said. "It was just something that felt like it was our creation in some ways and I think that's what was really important for me and key to it."

Of course, this doesn't mean that Phoenix doesn't care about how well Heath Ledger or Jared Leto embodied the character. It's simply proof that Joker will be completely different from anything we have already seen. Which is certainly a welcome idea because the Joker is a character who is so open to interpretation.

But did it work for Phoenix? The reviews about Joker certainly seem to confirm it. There have been reports that the film is being called a masterpiece and people are loving what Phoenix has done with the character.

Joker is scheduled for release on October 4.
