James Gunn Shuts Down Rumors Offering YouTubers To Helm DC Project

In case you missed it, the YouTuber/Talk To Me directors RackaRacka Brothers previously shared that they had to turn down DC Studios offering them a DC project to helm.

However, James Gunn was quick to shut down the rumor when a fan asked him on Twitter.

“The Philippous [brothers] met with some of our execs, and maybe discussed the possibility of something, but they never met me and Peter [Safran] and DC never offered them a project.” Gunn responded.

In response to a fan questioning why the brothers would lie about turning down DC, Gunn said, “No clue. Maybe they interpreted offering them to pitch on a project as an offer to actually do the project?”

“Like how sometimes actors say they were offered a role when they were simply offered an audition.”

It is possible that Gunn’s statement is what rings true on both sides here, seeing that the Philippou siblings were eager to share ‘declining’ DC Studios’ offer for them to helm one of the future films.

Danny and Michael Philippou, who are known for running their popular YouTube channel called RackaRacka, initially said, “[The] DC meeting went amazing. They offered us a project, but we decided not to go for it at the moment.”

The DC Studios boss will be writing and directing Superman: Legacy, which focuses on a younger Clark Kent working at the Daily Planet. A project that Gunn has been working on even before he took the co-CEO position at the company.

Meanwhile, Swamp Thing will be written and directed by James Mangold, who previously helmed 2017’s Logan, which starred Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart. Mangold’s involvement was confirmed during the Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London.

Superman: Legacy is slated to premiere on July 11, 2025, while Swamp Thing has yet to secure a release date.
