I think we can all agree that James Gunn accomplished a lot with Peacemaker which is by far one of the best DCEU offerings we've seen. Its grand finale is still generating a ton of buzz online days after it premiered but aside from it being a solid episode from start to finish, the season-ender is causing quite the controversy following a scene wherein The Flash "confirmed" rumors about Aquaman sleeping with fish. While some fans didn't mind the inclusion of the long-running joke, others were deeply offended by it and found the scene disrespectful to the vision James Wan established for the character.

After the finale came out, James Gunn broke his silence about the controversial scene. Speaking on Podly: The Peacemaker Podcast, the Marvel filmmaker brought some much-needed clarity to the issue and revealed that none of Peacemaker's absurd remarks about the Justice League are true. And yes, that includes Aquaman sleeping with fish.

He explains: "All of these things that Peacemaker says about these guys, I want you to know…Aquaman doesn’t really f–k fish, Superman doesn’t like to get s–t on, Green Arrow doesn’t have a big butt hole in his Brony costume, he just has a Brony costume, Wonder Woman never eye f’d Peacemaker from across the room, she was probably looking at him because he had a stupid helmet on. So all these things are in Peacemaker’s brain. We should make that clear for everyone that none of that is canon."

Well, I guess that settles everything once and for all. Now, fans can stop complaining about the Aquaman sex joke and just enjoy the scene for what it is. Frankly speaking, it didn't change the way I see the character nor did it tarnish Arthur Curry's legacy, and let's be real here, Peacemaker making fun of people is just his gimmick.

All episodes of Peacemaker are now available for streaming on HBO Max.
