First Full Teaser for HBO’s Watchmen Series Reveals a Rorschach Cult

You've read the comics, and you've watched the Snyder film, and now HBO has released the first trailer for Damon Lindelof's continuation for the story of Alan Moore's Watchmen.

Here's the official description:

Created by Damon Lindelof, Watchmen is a modern-day reimagining of Alan Moore's groundbreaking graphic novel about masked vigilantes. Starring Academy Award-winner Regina King, Don Johnson, Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Louis Gossett Jr.

Besides the whole Rorschach cult, we also get a look at Jeremy Irons who is said to be playing an older Ozymandias; you can even see him meditating on the table, just like that one cover of Ozy from Before Watchmen. There's also this thing with the police using yellow masks, and I don't know what that's a reference of, but it kind of feels like a callback to the Comedian's iconic smiley badge.

I have to say, after watching The Leftovers, I'm seeing a lot of elements from the show bleeding over to this series. Probably the most glaring comparison is the Rorschach cult that going on and how they seem to be orchestrating grand public gestures. In The Leftovers, there's a cult of people who called the Guilty Remnant, and they also have their own weird thing going on, complete with bizarre public statements.

This show is looking to be a fantastic follow-up to the original source material, and it's going to give us a look of the world today if the events of the original comic actually happened.

Catch Watchmen on HBO when it premieres this fall.
