The official trailer for Blood of Zeus season 2 teased Persephone joining Hades in the underworld. However, as much as fans are hyped to see their romance bloom on-screen, are they canon in the original mythology? Here's what you need to know.

Persephone is the Goddess of Spring, Vegetation, and Prosperity, while Hades is her complete opposite for being the God of the Dead and Darkness, making him King of the Underworld.

Will Persephone and Hades End Up Together in Blood of Zeus Season 2?

According to what the Blood of Zeus season 2 trailer has shown, Persephone (voiced by Lara Pulver) and Hades (Fred Tatasciore) are set to collide and take the thrones for themselves.

Of the two moments we've seen of Persephone and Hades, it would seem that the Goddess had intentionally joined the King of the underworld on his chariot so that they could "undo the injustices we've suffered", which includes taking their rightful place "atop the throne."

However, their original mythology wasn't as much of a "villain couple goals" as much as new fans believe. Their Greek mythology story is... much darker than that.

Is Romance Canon Between Persephone and Hades in Greek Mythology?

In many versions of the myth between Persephone and Hades' encounter, there was always the involvement of the abduction and robbing Persephone of her destiny.

The original story depicts Hades intentionally kidnapping Persephone right under her parents' noses after the King of the Underworld receives permission from Zeus.

Hades sought Persephone to make her his bride and this is by raping the Goddess.

Demeter asked Zeus for help in bringing Persephone back to the surface world, however, Hades had already thought this through.

He gave his bride pomegranate seeds to eat, which comes with the consequence that she must return to the underworld.

And so, it was marked from that day on, as Demeter and Hades agreed, Persephone only gets to spend part of the year in the underworld and the other times with her mother in the upper world.
