Another Original Suicide Squad Actor Won't Be in James Gunn's Sequel

It looks like initial reports about James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is a pseudo-reboot are coming true, as the supposed follow-up has lost another actor from the original movie. We already knew that Will Smith wouldn't be appearing as Deadshot in this film, Warner Bros hoping to replace him with Idris Elba, and now it looks like the movie has to re-cast Rick Flagg as well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joel Kinnaman will not be a part of the pseudo-sequel/reboot that is being helmed by James Gunn. No reason was given for this change, so we can assume that Rick Flagg won't be returning or they will, once again, re-cast the character.

We can probably expect Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, who is expected to return, to have a line like "you all look different," or something like that. Or maybe they will just ignore it.

If the first film is going to remain canon, it's a little easy to see why Kinnaman's Flagg won't be returning. The character got a happy ending with Enchantress, who ended up not dying after he crushed her heart. You could argue that Amanda Waller could boss him around to do more grunt work but it's not yet clear if that character will also be returning.

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad comes out on August 6, 2021.
