Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Episode 1 Recap
Back in middle school, Raido didn't have friends due to his unfriendly-looking face. It's his first day of high school, so he's set on finally making some friends — starting with his seatmate.
Unfortunately, his seatmate is Aharen Reina, who's just as awkward in her own way. On the first day of class, Raido tries to make conversation with her, to no avail. He thought that she was completely ignoring him, but it turned out that she was speaking too softly, so he couldn't hear her.
After Raido returns Aharen's eraser to her, her attitude immediately switches, and now she's way too close to Raido. He doesn't know how to figure her out, but he's determined to be patient with it to make their friendship work.
The two end up walking home together and going to karaoke. The next day, Aharen is distant again, but Raido moves closer to her this time. Aharen shares that she doesn't know how to gauge being close to people and has been ostracized for it before.
Raido doesn't have a problem with this, and the two continue to be friends. However, Aharen still speaks too softly, leading Raido to try many different things so that he could hear her better.
Raido noticed that their walk home together had become a routine. He also seems to be hearing Aharen better. She drags him to the arcade, and they spend some time at a claw game.
Raido fails to get anything, while Aharen gets multiple plushies. She gave all of it to Raido, but he gave her one as a form of thanks. Their friendship continues to develop, with Aharen even making him lunch. However, there seems to be another student who isn't too happy about it.
